2013 Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2013 Bin 407 fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and the Barossa Valley. Maturation took place in a mixture of French oak (26% new) and American oak hogsheads (12% new, 35% 1 y.o. and 27% seasoned) for a period of 12 months. Totally opaque midnight black colour with a bright dark red black hue. Expressive aromas of ripe blackcurrant laced with liquorice are followed by some vanillin cedar, faint tobacco and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate possesses both richness and elegance with flavours of blackcurrant infused with black olive over some cigar box like characters, vanillin cedar and spice. Dry finish with a sturdy robust tannin structure. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, cedary cigar box, subtle black olive and spice.
