2013 MWC Shiraz Mourvedre

A blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Mourvedre. Opaque black purple colour with a deep dark purple colour with a deep dark purple hue. Nosing reveals scents of dark plums and liquorice over some vanillin cedar, earth and spice. Medium to full bodied rich dark plum and liquorice flavours are prevalent over a background of smoky vanillin oak and blackpepper. Velvet smooth tannins. Very good depth with a medium to long aftertaste of dark plum, liquorice, smoky vanillin oak and blackpepper.
Cellar 3-4 years.

A 95/5% blend matured in French oak. Has everything one might wish for at this price; the supple, medium to full-bodied palate provides a reprise of the gently spicy black cherry/berry aromas of the bouquet, adding savoury tannins (probably from the mourvedre) to provide both texture and length. Drink by 2028.
