Named in honour of John “The Gaffer” Riggs (1814-1902), the great-great-great grandfather of winemaker Ben Riggs, this McLaren Vale blended Shiraz was made to acknowledge 150 years of the Riggs family’s rich farming heritage in South Australia. Grapes for “The Gaffer” have been sourced from vineyards from a variety of McLaren Vale’s best sites.

A long, rich, succulent Shiraz showcasing the best of what McLaren Vale has to offer.

Made with 30% new French oak this delicious Shiraz is assured to please even the fussiest of palates. Totally opaque inky black colour with a deep dark purple black hue. Nosing reveals bountiful aromas of ripe blackberries, liquorice and chocolate bullets followed by some vanillin cedar and spice. Rich and joosy the palate is bursting with succulent fruit including blackberries and liquorice with some black cherry nuances also present followed by vanillin cedar and spice. Very fine grained perfectly integrated tannins. Long aftertaste of blackberries, black cherries, liquorice and spicy vanillin cedar.
