Matured for 20 months in French oak casks. Impenetrable inky black colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Powerful ripe blackberry, liquorice and black cherry scents waft out of the glass followed by smoky vanillin cedar, some meatiness and pepper. This is a big powerful brute of a wine both in terms of its richness and robust structural feel. Mouthfilling flavours of liquorice and black cherries are to the fore with some blackberries also present. Smoky vanillin oak, black olives, scorched earth, dried meats and blackpepper then move in on the back palate. Dry but ripe chewy tannins make their presence felt imparting a grippy feel to the finish. Long black cherry, liquorice, black olive, earthy dried meats, scorched cedar and blackpepper aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
From the estate Golden Hillside and Mt Surmon Vineyards. All of Kevin Mitchell's cellaring recommendations are very short, this the longest with a 12-year frame. This is the most savoury, and in some ways, the most refined, of the '13 super-premium shiraz releases. It brings red, purple and black fruits into the fray, the tannins polished, the French oak a positive, yet balanced and integrated. Drink by 2033.
