Amon Ra is Ben Glaetzer’s flagship Shiraz named after an Egyptian God who was considered to be the King of all Gods. Fruit for the 2013 Amon Ra was sourced from a range of low yielding (2 tonnes per hectare) vineyards, aged between 50-130 years old, with a strong emphasis on fruit quality, rather than simply selecting parcels of fruit because they were from old vines. The wine was matured for 16 months in 100% new oak of which 5% was American and 95% French. It was bottled unfiltered.

A Powerful, Lavishly textured Amon Ra

Magnificent totally impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. Perfumed aromatics of liquorice, ripe blackberries and subtle dark chocolates emanate from the glass followed by dark plum, vanillin cedar and spice. Expansive and lavish the palate possesses beautiful fruit purity and outstanding concentration delivering a very rich flavour profile of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark plum followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin cedar, faint earth and spice. Velvety but structural tannins. Exceptional power with a very long conclusion of ripe blackberries, liquorice, dark plums, subtle dark chocolate, lightly toasted vanillin cedar and spice.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc 15.5%
