2013 was a warm and compact vintage in McLaren Vale with mild nights to warm days during the ripening period, leading to rich and intense fruit flavours and big, firm tannins. The wine was matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels varying in age from new to 2 years old for a period of 20 months.

A big rich McLaren Vale Shiraz made the old fashioned way.

Impenetrable midnight black colour with a very deep bright dark red black hue. Pronounced aromas of liquorice, ripe blackberries, vanillin oak, subtle mocha and spice bound from the glass showing excellent intensity. Full bodied with rich mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark chocolate flooding the palate over a background of vanillin oak, mocha and spice. Firmly built tannins provide some muscle buffering the opulently textured fruit. Very long aftertaste of liquorice, dark chocolate, ripe blackberries, vanillin oak and spice.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews...
Deep crimson-purple; the bouquet does not prepare you for the naked power of the full-bodied palate with its onrush of black fruits, bitter chocolate and potent, dusty tannins. Approach with caution, armed with a large char-grilled T-bone steak. Drink by 2038.
