One of the pioneers of Margaret River Cape Mentelle’s first vineyard was planted in 1970 followed by additional plantings in 1988. The 2013 vintage is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 1% Merlot with maturation taking place in Bordeaux coppered barriques of which 50% were new with the balance being 1 year old for a period of 18 months.

Opaque dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Showing excellent intensity the nose dishes up a refined aromatic profile of ripe blackcurrant and mulberry with some cedary tobacco infusions followed by hints of black olive, faint bay leaf and spicy, lightly scorched earth end notes. Medium bodied with an underlying richness of fruit the palate is blessed with perfectly ripened blackcurrant and mulberry flavours over some black olive and tobacco with cigar box, earth and spice ensuing. Elegant with a dry finish and relatively tightly knit mouthfeel, yet fine grained perfectly integrated tannin structure. Excellent length with a long conclusion of blackcurrant, spicy mulberry, cedary tobacco characters, subtle black olive and earthy cigar box characters.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc 13.5%
