2013 Cape Barren Old Vine Shiraz

The fruit for this old vine Shiraz is sourced from a Blewitt Springs vineyard (43%) that’s over 120 years old with the balance coming from two McLaren Vale vineyards that are over 50 years old. Maturation took place in French oak for 18 months. Totally opaque inky black colour with a dark crimson red black hue. Alluring scents of liquorice, black cherries and blackberries waft from the glass followed by some vanillin cedar with spicy blackpepper end notes. The palate boasts tremendous richness with mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, blackberries and black cherries to the fore underpinned by meaty vanillin cedar and spicy blackpepper characters. Firm structured finish with fine grained tannins. Has refinement with great underlying structural properties. Long aftertaste of blackpepper, liquorice, black cherries, meaty characters and spicy vanillin cedar.
