Established by Captain Stentiford in 1893 the Laira Vineyards was purchased by Eric Brand and his wife Nancy in 1950. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s they sold their fruit to larger wineries before releasing the first Brand's Laira wine in 1966. Eric and his sons continued to produce wine at Brand’s Laira until 1994 when the McWilliam’s family purchased the property. Casella wines now own the vineyard.

Matured in a mixture of fine grained French and American oak 500L puncheons, 300L hogsheads and 225L barriques with 35% of the volume being new oak (85% of the new oak being French) and the balance second and third use barrels.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark red black tinged hue. Scented ripe blackcurrant aromas are intertwined with hints of liquorice, spicy cedary tobacco like characters and bay leaf. Medium weighted the palate matches excellent fruit richness with classical Coonawarra elegance. Mouthfilling blackcurrant and dark spicy mulberry flavours overlay well integrated cedary tobacco characters and spicy bay leaf. Beautifully balanced fine grained tannins are seamlessly integrated to the fruit. Excellent length with a long aftertaste of blackcurrant, mulberries, spicy cedary tobacco characters and bay leaf.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 14.5%
