Named after a set of medieval wooden leg stocks which stand in the town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, England, 'The Stocks' Shiraz is Woodstock's flagship wine. This single vineyard Shiraz is made from 31 rows of low yielding vines, planted circa 1900 on a sandy north slope of Woodstock Estate. Maturation took place in a combination of French and American oak for 18 months.

Totally opaque inky black purple colour with very deep dark purple black tinged hue. Outstanding nose delivering superb intensity with aromas of liquorice, ripe blackberry and dark chocolate leaping out of the glass followed by some mocha, vanillin oak and spice. Decadent richness works in tandem with an opulent texture delivering succulent and powerful flavours of ripe blackberry and liquorice over some dark chocolate, toasty vanillin oak and spice. The oak sticks out a little at present but will fully integrate with time. Solid tannins assert their presence yet are velvet smooth. Long liquorice, dark chocolate, toasty vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years (2019-2021).
Alc 15.5%
