Totally opaque inky black colour with a deep dark red black hue. Heady aromas of ripe blackberries, liquorice and black cherries engulf the senses with an overlay of subtle dried apricot and toasty oak finishing with spicy clove end notes. Rich and sumptuous the palate features lavishly textured flavours of ripe dark plums, blackberries and liquorice with a relatively strong toasty oak component emerging on the back palate along with some spicy clove characters. Silky smooth tannins. Excellent length with a long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberries, dark plums, toasty oak and spice. A question mark remains over the level of toasty oak.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 15.5%

Other Reviews….
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Run Rig offers a nose of baked cherries and raspberry preserves with suggestions of violets, cinnamon toast, aniseed and vanilla. Full-bodied with characteristic elegance and poise in spite almost of its power, it has a solid backbone of very finely grained tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing with great length. Drink 2017-2030.

I feel like the consistency and quality of Torbreck's flagship wine has only increased over time. The 2012 RunRig is gorgeously floral and vibrant, with concentrated red berries, characteristic weight and intensity on the palate and supple, silky tannins. It's delicious now, but it should age gracefully through at least 2035.
