2012 Paringa Estate PE Shiraz

Five percent viognier was co-fermented with the Shiraz and aging took place in a combination of new and used French oak barriques for a period of 11 months. Opaque black purple colour with dark purple crimson hue. Subdued nose with aromas of inky blackberry and liquorice slowly evolving from the glass with some underlying dried meats and toasty vanillin spice also present. Light to medium weight the palate has a youthful flavour profile of inky blackberries and dark cherries followed by some light meatiness and spice. Dryish finish with fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of inky blackberry, some meatiness and spice. A light elegant cool climate Shiraz that requires some bottle age.
