Sourced from vines planted in 1899 and 1965 this wine was matured in a combination of 75% French oak and 25% American oak barriques, 25% of which was new with the balance in 2 and 3 year old oak for a total of 15 months. Totally opaque black purple colour with a dark purple black hue. Nosing reveals scents of ripe blackberries, black cherries and liquorice followed by some vanillin cedar, a touch of meatiness and pepper. The palate is full bodied and rich but without the density and super concentration of previous vintages. It comes across as a more refined and elegant version of the Bogan and features flavours of blackberries, liquorice, vanillin cedar and dried meats with some light pepperiness also present. Very fine grained, slightly dryish tannins provide good structure. Long aftertaste of blackpepper, liquorice, blackberries and dried meats.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 14%
