A new direct import from the states Domaine Serene are a highly regarded producer of world class Pinot based in Oregon’s Willamette Valley appellation. Long time fans of Burgundy, owners Grace and Ken Evenstad purchased a 42 acre hilltop estate in 1989 and completed construction of a state of the art winery in 2001. Since the first vintage in 1990 the estate has picked up many accolades including the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir being recognized as the World’s #3 Wine of 2013 by Wine Spectator Magazine.
Matured for 16 months in French oak of which 65% is new. The dark red black tinged colour shows excellent depth with a dark red purple hue. The nose is a perfumed amalgam of violets, dark cherries, plums and strawberries which overlay some stalky cedar, faint anise and spice. The palate possesses an outstanding power wave in conjunction with superb richness sporting seductive flavours of ripe dark cherries, plum and strawberries that glide their way across the mouth. Underlying nuances of spicy cedar, subtle smoked meats and faint anise are also present. Supple elegant textural feel with velvety tannins and perfectly balanced acidity. Very long aftertaste of ripe dark cherries, plum, spicy cedar, dried meats and faint anise.
Cellar 5-6 years.
