Greywacke is the Marlborough label of former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd, and the fulfilment of a long held dream. The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1992 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own.
Brilliant, very pale straw, almost water like colour with greenish tinged edges and watery hue. Intense aromas of ripe passionfruit leap of out the glass followed by some citrus with a light, herbaceous, gooseberry overlay and some subtle capsicum end notes. The intensity of the nose is matched by the palate which delivers mouthfilling flavours of passionfruit and citrus followed by some ripe gooseberry and herbaceous characters on the back palate. Clean, crisp acid finish with long, persistent passionfruit, citrus and herbaceous capsicum aftertaste.
