Both now and in the past, Sancerre has been considered the Loire Valley’s premiere appellation. In the pre-phylloxera era (before 1850), it provided Pinot Noir for Champagne production. Demand from the northern neighbours was testament to the quality of the vineyards. Post phylloxera, Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre took its place as one of the classic varietals on the world stage (aided, some say, by the ease with which English speakers could pronounce 'Sancerre', as opposed to other French appellations). Vincent Pinard is one of the most innovative and dedicated producers of the Loire Valley. He has 10 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 2.5 hectares of Pinot Noir, planted mainly on the hard chalky land of the commune of Bué.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with a very faint tinge of green on the edges and watery hue. The nose displays a lifted aromatic profile of citrus, green apple, light herbs and mineral. Delicately weighted but with good textural qualities and a clean crisp refreshing finish the palate displays flavours of citrus, mineral infusions, green apple and lime showing good intensity. Long aftertaste of citrus, green apple and mineral.
