The Roger family have practised their trade in and around the village of Bué since the early 17th century. Jean-Max Roger took the reins in the early 1970s and expanded the estate's Sancerre holdings from 4 hectares to its current 26. Beginning in 2004, two of his three sons, Etienne and Thibault, came back to work at the estate, ensuring this fine maker continues as a passionate, quality focused, family business. In Pouilly sur Loire, Jean max Roger works with like minded growers, from whom he's been buying or exchanging grapes for the last 20 years. Located on the right bank of the Loire, Pouilly offers slightly more diversity when it comes to its geology. Here siliceous soils feature more prominently in the form of "Chailloux", a mixture of silex (flintstone) and clays, sometimes mixed with alluvial sands. Alongside the same "Terres Blanches" found in Sancerre, it is thought that this patchwork of soils gives of the Pouilly-Fume appellation its typical flinty aroma and intensity.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with watery hue. The nose displays citrus top note followed by some ripe gooseberry and passionfruit with some lightly smoked flinty like characters as an overlay. The palate possesses good concentration and mouthfeel with flavours of citrus, green apple and ripe gooseberry followed by some flinty mineral like characters on the back palate. Clean crisp acid finish. Aftertaste of citrus, green apple, lime and flinty mineral.
