As we've seen with previous wines offered, 2010 was clearly an outstanding vintage in Pomerol. Perfect dry summer days and cool nights, and little disease pressure lead to ideal harvesting conditions. But finding value in the notoriously expensive Pomerol commune has been difficult. Enter Chateau de Valois. Formed in 1862 after the break up of Chateau Figeac, their parcels are on the southern slopes of the Pomerol plateau. They have recently produced some much lauded wines including this 2010, a blend of 77% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and the remainder Cabernet Sauvignon.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a very dark red black tinged hue. Lifted ripe blackcurrant and dark cherry aromas preside over a background of cedary tobacco, light earth and spice showing very good perfume. Medium weight, rich, perfectly ripened blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours glide gracefully across the palate followed by some cedary cigar box like characters, faint earth and spice. Perfectly integrated very fine grained tannin structure. Long blackcurrant, cedar, light earth and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc 14%

Other Reviews…
Coffee and milk chocolate. Spearmint and eucalyptus. Opens up with some ripe plum, prunes and sweet licorice. Full and dense on the palate with polished and pure dark fruit and lots of licorice in the long finish. Very pretty. Try in 2017.
