In the Fronsadais sub-region to the North of Saint Emilion, Chateau de Carlmagnus is sitting on the the Tertre de Canon in Canon-Fronsac, at the highest point of the appellation, the Molasses Fronsadaise, where Merlot is right at home. The wine is one of those examples of 100% Merlot that over-delivers on power - in short, an underdog that packs a punch!

Totally opaque black crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red black tinged hue. The nose shows very good intensity with lifted cassis and ripe black cherry aromas to the fore front followed by some liquorice, cedar and spice. Big, rich and opulent in the mouth the palate possesses a flavour profile of black cherries and liquorice followed by ripe blackcurrants, cedar and spice. The wealth of fruit for the most part concealing the firm solid tannin structure. Long black cherry, liquorice, subtle earthy cedar and spice aftertaste. Big, ripe, powerful Bordeaux.
Cellar 5-6 years (2019-2020).
Alc 15.5%

Other Reviews...
A pretty red with dried stones and blueberries on the nose. Full body, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Excellent tannin backbone here with subtle fruit. Bright. Try after 2016.
