$3588.00 Dozen
ABV: 15.5%
Closure: Cork

A waxed sealed bottle with a bowling pin cast, plush velvet label and pouch give a contemporary 'Rococo' feel to the star of the 2009 Mollydooker collection. Like the rest, the packaging anticipates the wine. The Velvet Glove is totally over the top.
An impenetrable black dark purple colour with black heart and very deep black purple hue shows remarkable colour saturation. A perfume of fresh blackberry, liquorice and confectionary hits the nose, counterpointed by a trace of blackpepper and light toasty notes. A superb sniff. The palate delivers a slow-motion explosion - liquorice, dark plum, blackberry, confectionary, vanilla, toast and spice flavours are followed by blackpepper on the back palate, all seamlessly interwoven in a complex amalgam. Decadently rich and exuberant texture with excellent acidity supporting the masses of fruit. Very fine grained, almost velvet like tannins with exceptionally long aftertaste of liquorice, blackpepper, confectionary and spice. Tasted 2010.
Alc 15.5%

Other Reviews....
There were 250 cases bottled of the 2009 Velvet Glove Shiraz, a year that Sparky Marquis remembers as being, "A good year. Low yields, a long, cool season that was bad for sunbathers but good for grapes." The wine is still holding up, boasting notes of mint, raspberries, blackberries and chocolate. It's full-bodied, velvety and long, but I'd drink up soon.

Joe Czerwinski - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate

Polished, expressive, supple and velvety, glowing brightly with notes of blueberry and black and damson plum, with a panoply of sweet spices. All the flavors meld together with impressive integrity, persisting on the very long, complex finish. Most appealing is the deftness of the balance.
