In the wake of several very warm vintages, some mid-priced South Australian reds have begun to display a sameness. Tricked up, too ripe or insufficient tannin and acidity to balance the sweetness of the fruit make for shortlived love affairs with many consumers. For others such styles have remained popular - perhaps because these wines appeal instinctively to sweeter tastes. There are producers who've managed to create more individual reds that while reflective of vintage conditions, retain a sense of freshness, structure and balance. Like the Warrabilla wines featured in last months Vintage Direct, the 2009 Mollydooker Collection demonstrates creative, skilled viticulture and winemaking winning over natural adversity and market inertia. The wines are also an extension of two very exuberant and talented personalities, left handed winemakers, Sarah & Sparky Marquis.

A super saturate fantastic colour
Black crimson with black heart and deep black crimson hue. Aromas of liquorice allsorts, confectionary and blackberry are followed by a hint of spice. Superb concentration with rich opulent palate flavours of liquorice, spice and confectionary followed by some blackpepper on the back palate. Voluptuous texture. Velvet smooth tannins with a very long aftertaste of liquorice, confectionary and blackpepper.
Cellar 3-4 years (2013-2014).
