La Pleiade is a collaboration between Rhone legend Michel Chapoutier and Ron Laughton of Jasper Hill fame. The grapes are grown biodynamically and without irrigation. If you're wondering, the minimalist label is not a braille card - it represents the Pleiadian constellation, a cluster that features in many ancient cultures. According to the producers, "It celebrates our global kinship in wine".
Opaque black purple crimson colour with deep crimson purple hue. Perfumed scents of violets, liquorice, blackberry and confectionary with a light toast overlay. The palate beautifully counterpoints power against refinement with mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, confectionary, blackpepper and spice followed by some light meaty back palate flavours. Very fine grained, slightly dryish but perfectly balanced tannin structure. Excellent persistence and depth with very long blackpepper, liquorice and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-8 years (2016-2019).
Alc 14.5%
