The Koltz story begins in 1995, when winemaker Mark Day and Anna Koltunov made their first wine from grapes sourced from the Bottin Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Mark has had extensive winemaking experience, being winemaker at Maxwell and Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale. Not content with local experience, Mark has also consulted in Italy and France. Winemaking is traditional. Fermentation takes place in open vats, basket pressed and then transferred to oak. The wines are generous in style and reflect Mark's experience both in Australia and overseas. He believes that “Wines should be complex, but a pleasure to drink at any stage of their evolution”.
Opaque black crimson colour with deep dark crimson red hue. Aromas of freshly crushed blackberry, dark plum and spice followed by some liquorice and blackpepper end notes. Opulently textured with a joosy flavour profile of ripe blackberry and dark plum followed by some dark chocolate, liquorice and spice. Good length with velvety tannins and aftertaste of black plum, blackberry and spice.
Cellar 2-3 years (2012-2013).
Alc 14.0%
