The Heggies Vineyard was purchased in 1971 by Wyndham Hill Smith from his great friend, Colin Heggie. The label portrays Colin astride his horse Jack at sunset, surveying the first plantings in the vineyard. Grapes are picked in the cool of the night and swiftly transported to the winery. There is minimal handling of the juice and only the free run portion is selected for Heggies Riesling. The juice is fermented at a cool temperature using aromatic yeasts and blended early at the completion of fermentation.

Another excellent effort from Heggies.

This is one of the first 2009 whites to be released. Very pale straw colour with a tinge of green and watery hue. The nose is very aromatic and displays excellent intensity. Aromas of lime, citrus and tropical fruits leap out of the glass followed by some orange rind end notes. The palate is little more austere than the nose indicates with flavours of fresh lemon and lime dominating followed by orange rind and some underlying minerality on the finish. Clean crisp acid finish with aftertaste of lime, citrus and mineral.

Other Reviews....
Owned by the Hill Smith family since 1971, Heggies has been one of the most consistent producers of high quality riesling. An expressive bouquet with ripe blossom aromas leads into a palate which gathers pace as it streams to a vital and intense conclusion, lime/citrus flavours sustained by excellent acidity.
