2009 Geoff Merrill Reserve Shiraz

Matured for 29 months in small oak barrels. Impenetrable black dark red core with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated aromatics of liquorice, blackberries and some black cherries blossom from the glass over toasty vanillin oak and blackpepper. Rich with good concentration yet relatively light on its feet the palate is dominated by liquorice and aniseed like flavours which sit atop blackberry and black cherries followed by some toasty vanillin oak and earthy pepper. The acidity still bright and the tannin structure rigid but fine grained. Aftertaste of liquorice, black cherries, toasty vanillin oak, earth and blackpepper.
