2009 Fraser Gallop Estate Chardonnay

The winemaker's intention with this Chardonnay is to create complexity. Emphasis is on 'secondary flavours' (acquired through the winemaking process using techniques such as barrel fermentation, wild yeasts and time on lees), as opposed to 'primary flavours', (that is, those derived from the fruit itself which in Chardonnay can include melon, fig, white peach and mango flavours).

Bright pale straw colour with a slight greenish tinge around the edges and water like hue. The nose displays subtle aromas of melon, biscuit, toast and citrus followed by some yeast lees end notes. Medium weight the palate displays flavours of white peach, spice and citrus with a subtle toasty flint like overlay. Good balanced acidity with a clean dry finish. Long aftertaste of white peach, biscuit and toasty flint like characters.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2013-2014).
