This nine hectare estate initially planted in 2001 has already produced a succession of generous Alsace styled 'Gris'. Its name comes from the rare brown and white magpies that inhabit the area. Presently there are three living on the property. This wine was whole bunch pressed then part cold tank fermented using aromatic yeasts, and part barrel fermented in old French barriques using wild yeast. The wine was aged in barrel and tank for four months before blending.
Bright straw pale gold colour with pale straw hue. Exotic perfumed aromas of musk, lychee and ripe pear along with a hint of confectionary. Full bodied palate delivering rich ripe exotic pear flavours followed by honeycomb, musk and lychee with a spicy back palate. Excellent weight and concentration with mouthfilling texture and good well balanced acidity (those who like Pinot Gris on the drier side should note there’s some residual sweetness here). Very long, ripe pear, spice, lychee and honeycomb aftertaste.
