An excellent rich and peppery 2008 Barossa Shiraz

Located in the Greenock Hills in the North Western intra region of the Barossa Valley, Zitta Wines employ a minimalist winemaking approach. The fruit for this single vineyard Shiraz was picked in four separate parcels from different sections of the vineyard in order to maximum complexity. Each batch was separately fermented in an open top fermenter with pumping over by hand twice a day allowing for optimal extraction of flavour and colour. After fermentation on skins for seven days the musts were gently basket pressed with pressings immediately returned for completeness of the wine. The wines were then filled into a combination of 20% new and 80% used seasoned American and French oak hogsheads barrels where they underwent natural malolactic fermentation. After two year maturation in barrel, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Totally opaque black crimson colour with very deep black crimson hue. The nose displays perfumed aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, liquorice allsorts and confectionary. Decadently rich palate flavours of blackberry and liquorice followed by some confectionary and spice. Voluptuous texture with velvet smooth tannins. Long aftertaste of blackpepper, blackberry, liquorice and spice. An excellent effort and surprisingly quite peppery for a 2008 Barossa Shiraz given the warmer than average vintage conditions experienced.
Cellar 4-5 years.
