New Zealand winemakers are becoming more and more concerned with terroir and the identification of 'sub regions' within Marlborough that consistently deliver particular flavour profiles. St Clair's Block 7 vineyard is located in Dillions Point on the free draining, even, alluvial soils of the lower Wairau Valley flood plain. A portion of this vineyard has been purposely planted on its own roots (as opposed to being grafted onto disease resistant rootstock) to monitor the difference in flavours.Tasting Notes: Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. The nose is an intense sniff, revealing ripe gooseberry, confectionary and tropical fruit aromas followed by a grassy, herb end note. The aromas are reflected on the palate with unripe gooseberry and passionfruit flavours followed by tropical fruit and spice. Clean acid finish. Very long, unripe gooseberry and pronounced unripe passionfruit aftertaste.
Cellar 1-2 years (2010-2011)
