2008 Quarisa Johnny Q Shiraz

John Quarisa (a.k.a. 'Johnny Q') has had an eventful winemaking career spanning 24 years, including winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2004 and the Stodart Trophy in Brisbane, two pinnacles of Australia's wine show circuit. His new label's entry level Shiraz is extremely approachable, and offers excellent value for money.

Deep crimson red colour with crimson mauve hue. The nose is somewhat restrained on first sniff but as the wine warms up yields aromas of confectionary, dark cherry and liquorice. Ripe, joosy palate displaying excellent weight for a quaffing red. Flavours of mocha, liquorice allsorts, confectionary and ripe plum. Excellent length. Fine grained soft tannins with long aftertaste of aniseed, confectionary,blackberry and toast.
Drink now or cellar 1-2 years (2011-2012)
