At a latitude of 41° south, the Dalrymple Vineyard shares the same latitude as Champagne, and therefore could be described as ‘cool’. The 12.3 hectare vineyard rises up an easterly slope from 100-160 metres above sea level. The soils are composed of rich basalt, derived from the extinct volcanic crater on the western boundary of the vineyard. The vines are around 20 years old with varietal clones selected that ripen early in this cool area. The fruit for the Sauvignon Blanc has been sourced from the Dalrymple vineyard together with fruit from other sites in the Tamar Valley. Complexity is added to the wine by using a variety of fermentation techniques, including a portion of the wine being barrel fermented.
Winemaker Natalie Fryar has produced an outstanding example of pungent Sauvignon Blanc.Bright pale straw colour with pale straw hue. Strong top note of passionfruit, ripe gooseberry and kiwi fruit. The palate is dominated by a very crisp, freshly squeezed lemon tang that has real bite. Flavours of ripe and unripe gooseberry are supported by unripe passionfruit and 'fresh lemon juice', which runs well into the aftertaste.
