We've reviewed many 'Gris' in Vintage Direct over the years, but only a handful of 'Grigios'. They're made from the same variety, so what's the difference? Locally, the label 'Pinot Gris' almost always indicates a wine made in the
generous, full-bodied style of Alsace in France and Germany, whilst 'Pinot Grigio' will usually indicate that the wine is made in the drier, lighter, Italian-influenced style. Pronounced PEE-no GREE / GREE-zho, the varietal has been developed in Australia since the 1980's.
Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. top note of lemon, followed by semi ripe pear and spice finishing with a light tropical fruit end note. Clean dryish palate, showing the crisp backbone of the Italianate expression of this varietal. Flavours of lemon, semi ripe and unripe pear over a hint of tropical fruit on the back palate. Aftertaste of semi ripe pear, spice and tropical fruit.
Cellar 1-2 years (2010-2011)
