Petit Verdot is one of five grape varieties that make up traditional Bordeaux blends. In cool years the variety does not fare well, which is one reason that it has become less popular amongst the Bordeaux producers, however, the variety seems to thrive in warm years – where it develops exceptional depth and complexity. Wayne Thomas consistently succeeded with the variety in McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate.

Opaque black crimson purple mauve colour with crimson purple mauve hue. Top note of black cherry, followed by spice, fresh liquorice allsorts and freshly crushed blackberries. The palate delivers flavours of black cherry, plum and spice with explosive pepper back palate. Fine, slightly chalky tannins. Aftertaste of black cherry, liquorice bar and mocha which is quite persistent.
