We've been crowing about the wonderful Pinot Noir wines grown in Martinborough and Central Otago, with cooler reviews given to Pinot’s grown elsewhere in New Zealand. The 2007 Nautilus Pinot Noir turns the tables. The wine was cold soaked for 7 days prior to commencing a warm ferment. 5 clones were sourced from 6 vineyard sites.

– this wine has all the hallmarks of great Pinot Noir.

Very deep crimson mauve colour with mauve purple hue. The nose is impressive, with spicy liquorice, black cherry and strawberry jam aromas showing strong varietal character. The palate is quite joosy and is supported by velvet smooth tannins – and what’s more, there is a very impressive power wave. Flavours of super ripe black cherries, black pepper and spice over a layer of strawberry jam. Very long aftertaste with the power wave persisting. Exceptional value.
