The Langmeil Vineyards have a history which follows the arrival to Australia of the first Lutheran migrants from Hamburg in 1839. The first vineyards were established in 1843 and the original patch of Shiraz stills remains productive today. In the past the fortunes of Langmeil have waxed and waned with the economic times. In the 1930’s the property was known as Paradale and by the 1970’s the vineyards were taken over by Bernkaster Wines which remained in business until 1988 when it’s crushing operations ceased. By 1993 the cellar door was closed.

The Langmeil revival came about in 1996 when three local businessmen, Richard and Carl Lindner and Chris Bitter purchased the property and began restoration. The Valley Floor Shiraz is a blend of new and old Shiraz vines from the Barossa Valley’s floor. The age of the vines varies from 120, 70 and 50 years and is blended back with material from younger vines. Maturation takes place in 20% new and 80% old American oak.

A big, joosy flavour filled Barossa Shiraz offering great value for money.

Excellent colour – deep purple black opaque colour with deep crimson hue. Aromas of liquorice, confectionary and vanilla with some spice and pepper background notes. Mouthfilling palate, full bodied and joosy with strong rich ripe blackberry, liquorice, aniseed, confectionary, vanilla and blackpepper flavours. Excellent weight with velvet smooth tannin structure. Long peppery blackberry confectionary aftertaste. An excellent follow up to the outstanding 2006 vintage.
