The Kalleske Greenock Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard, located on the Western edge of the Greenock Creek in the Northern Barossa Valley. The vineyard consists of shallow, sandy loam soil over deep red clay and limestone, providing ideal conditions for Shiraz vines. 2007 was a drought affected vintage with a warm growing season and one of the driest winters on record. Intermittent summer rainfall refreshed the vines and enabled them to remain remarkably vibrant and take them through to ripening and harvest. As a result of the drought yields were reduced by about 30%, however, fortunately the quality of the resultant fruit was not affected. The wine was matured in a combination of American and French oak (30% new) for a period of 18 months.

A generous Barossa red.

Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Top note of plum, followed by perfumed notes of violets, vanilla and blackberry. The palate is full bodied, showing excellent concentration. Flavours of plum, vanilla, liquorice and spice overlaid by a very spicy black pepper back palate. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance. Very long aftertaste of plum, stewed fruit, liquorice and vanilla.
