Pinot Gris has been known in the Burgundy region since the middle ages and was also popular in Champagne, however, poor yields and unreliable crops caused the demise of this variety. New clones were developed in the early 20th century which produced reasonable crops. The variety was introduced to Australia by James Busby in 1832. It is also grown in Alsace, Italy, New Zealand and Oregon, USA.
Bright pale straw colour. Top note of ripe pear, spice and tropical fruit. The palate is a touch broad, with ripe tropical fruit and ripe pear flavours evident, showing distinct varietal character. Spice and ripe pear aftertaste.
Cellar 2-3 years (2010-2011)
First Tasted 30th October, 2007;
Brilliant straw colour with water like hue. Delicate pear top note followed by a tropical fruit end note. The palate is fuller and more true to the Alsatian style. Flavours of ripe pear and ripe mandarin are followed by clean, but relatively soft acidity. Aftertaste of ripe pear.
Cellar: 2-3 years (2009-2010)
