A powerful, seriously concentrated Barossa Cabernet.
Glaymond's vineyards are part of a fifth generation family estate, first planted in 1961 by Gerhard Tscharke, though the family traditionally operated a mixed farm and stud piggery. Things probably wouldn't have changed if young Damien Tscharke had been satisfied with a life on the farm. After been introduced to winemaking & viticulture at University, his eyes were opened to the untapped potential of the family's site (already a reliable source of 'A' grade fruit for Rockford, Peter Lehmann and Penfolds). When Damien inherited the vineyard from his father, he realised he'd be a fool not to try to make a go of it. It's not an easy thing to break with tradition, but since 2001 Tscharke's never looked back. His Glaymond collection continues to impress, even in challenging vintages like 2007.
Be warned: Tscharke is young, determined and not content to remain sitting on the sidelines. Take advantage of this extraordinary producer while his prices remain more than fair.
Saturated opaque black dark red colour with dark red hue with excellent glass cling. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate, confectionary and spice – an excellent sniff. The palate is a super concentrate of flavour filling every corner of the mouth with super ripe blackcurrant, black plum, liquorice, spice and cedar delivering outstanding depth and persistence. Opulent but perfectly balanced with very fine grained, slightly dry tannin structure that is beautifully integrated with the fruit. Exceptionally long persistent aftertaste of ripe blackcurrant, liquorice and spice.
