Tasting note: You know you really can't go wrong with young Caol Ila - it's a tried and tested quality malt with an incredibly consistent island style. Always vibrant and engaging, the nose here is initially more citrus than smoke, but the peat soon intensifies: iodine, eucalyptus rub, mezcal and whiffs of pine sap bring a distinct Islay edge to the sweet malt. Starts off slow, then delivers what Caol Ila does so well: a maritime flavour wave so creamy and seamlessly integrated it's as though the phenols coat your tongue in an oily glaze. Lanolin and vanilla through the finish. No water needed. Easy to see why this is one of Claxton’s favourite peated malts. Matured in a Bourbon hogshead. 51.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered
