Cape Mentelle’s Shiraz takes inspiration from the techniques and wines of France’s Northern Rhône Valley. The fruit is destemmed only, cold soaked and traditionally fermented. All batches are basket pressed and transferred to large oak vats for malolactic fermentation. The wine is then matured for 14 months in predominantly Burgundian coopered French oak barriques, 30% of which were new.

This is the most concentrated and mouthfilling Cape Mentelle Shiraz that we’ve experienced.

Tasting Note (tasted 11/11/2009):
Superb opaque black purple colour with black purple hue. Lifted perfumed aromas of blackberry, meat, liquorice allsorts, confectionary, spice and blackpepper displaying excellent intensity. Full bodied with generous flavours of blackberry, liquorice, aniseed, meat and spice with a touch of earth also emerging. Superb length and persistence. Good structure with fine grained slightly dry tannins and very long aftertaste of blackpepper, spice and liquorice allsorts.

Other Reviews…
Dense crimson-purple; spicy fruit aromas on the bouquet, then a voluptuous palate with multiple flavours of spice, licorice and both red and black fruits; exemplary oak and tannin support. Screwcap.
