An extraordinary first-fill oloroso matured Caol Ila, bottled exclusively for the 2020 Adelphi Australia Tour.
Tasting note:Matured in a first fill oloroso barrel. The precocious, polished mahogany colour is a dead-ringer for a whisky twice its age. From the first sniff, peat and sherry do battle; Barbeque sauce, cured meats, scorched earth and lanolin are set against raisin cake, prunes, dried orange peel and baking spice. Clearly we have a hyper-active cask on our hands: Caol Ila's medium peat arrives with a cocoa vibe: fruit’n’nut dark chocolate, fudge brownies and brandy soaked peel follow in a finishing blast of sooty peat. The final stages are oily, with old leather, caramelised walnuts and hints of chico lollies... Uncut, the balance is superb. Minimal water highlights the oloroso. A freak bottling, but we expect nothing less from Adelphi. 52.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 332 bottles from cask 301263.
