Tasting note: Piercing alcohol and cheesy / peppery opening whiffs; aeration picks up the sweetness as boiled lollies, caramel fudge, dark chocolate, vanilla. The sort of delivery that will sort the men from the boys: Achingly intense bittersweetness amid flashes of caramel fudge and butterscotch. Bitter cocoa aftertaste. Dilution will be essential for most. Water draws out attractive aromas and flavours of red apple and hay bail. 64.3% Alc./Vol.

Rattray's "Cask Collection" series, whether from a barrel, a hogshead or a butt, represent single cask whiskies made available in extremely limited quantities, often no more than a couple of hundred bottles for each cask. The whiskies are bottled without chill filtration.
