Wairau River is a family concern established in 1978 by Phil and Chris Rose. The family run four Estate vineyards which are carefully managed to keep yields low. The vines are planted on shallow soils with low fertility which contributes to the concentration of flavours in the finished wine. Fruit is picked in small parcels, each distinctive block being matured in its own tank, thereby allowing small batch ferments, further contributing to the wine’s flavour profiles.
Excellent length and depth with an unusual twist...
Bright water like colour with water like hue. The nose is a delight, showing both freshness and youth. Intense top note of gooseberry, followed by ripe and unripe gooseberry notes, tropical fruit and spice. The palate delivers plenty of flavour, with an unusual but delightful twist. Flavours of ripe gooseberry and tropical fruit are followed with a touch of cadamon. Excellent length and depth. Crisp acid backbone. Ripe gooseberry aftertaste.
Cellar 1-2 years (2007-2008)
