Barbera [bar-BEHR-uh] is believed to have originated in the hills of Monferrato in central Piemonte, Italy and has been recognised since the 13th century. A number of clones have evolved, though the variety generally produces delightfully youthful, fruity reds and occasionally wines worthy of comparison to fine Italian Nebbiolos. Cuttings arrived in Australia via the University of California, Davis in the 1960's.

This is an excellent example of ripe, 'joosy' Barbera.

Very deep crimson colour with crimson hue. Very spicy top note followed by plum, vanilla and fresh liquorice. Generous palate flavours of juicy plum, vanilla, spice and confectionary. Mouthfilling, very spicy on the back palate with flavours of ripe plum, black cherry and confectionary over vanilla. Fine grained perfectly balanced tannin, with spice persisting into the aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years. (2012-2015)
Alc./Vol 15.0% .
