The Leconfield vineyard was planted in 1974 in Coonawarra’s rich Terra Rossa soils by Sydney Hamilton. 2006 was considered an excellent vintage for Coonawarra. A late autumn break was followed by a warm spring resulting in an early harvest. The wine is composed of a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. The fruit was mechanically harvested between the 28th March and 10th of April. Small berries produced quite low yields, averaging 5 tonnes per hectare (2 tonnes per acre). The finished wine was matured for 20 months in a variety of oaks – 52% being new French, 30% 2 year old French and the balance 1 and 2 year old American.

One of the best Leconfield Cabernets in recent memory!

Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue, delivering good cling to the glass walls. Top note of violets, followed by dark chocolate and cassis over a toasted oak end note. The palate displays flavours of dark chocolate, cassis and cedar over a smoky oak background. Fine dry, but balanced tannins. Aftertaste of cassis, cedar and spice.
