The Huia winemaking team of Claire and Mike Allan have established a reputation for making complex, full flavoured wines. The Pinot Gris was made by using both wild yeasts and inoculated yeast to develop different flavour profiles. 40% of the juice finished its fermentation in French oak and left on lees.
Bright pale straw colour, almost water like, with green hue. Top note of ripe pear, followed by a hint of green pear, tropical fruit and musk. Generous palate, with weight and strong varietal flavour. Flavours of pear, spice and tropical fruit are followed by background flavours of ripe pear, pineapple and mandarin. Clean acid finish.
Cellar 1-2 years (2008-2009)
First tasted, October 2006:
Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. The nose is quite delicate with top notes of ripe pear, followed by a hint of talc. The palate delivers light ripe pear and tropical fruit overlaid with a touch of paw paw. Clean acid finish. Excellent flavour profile – A delightful example, inspired by the wines of Alsace.
Cellar 1-2 years (2007-2008)
