The huge range of vintage Macallans once on offer are all but a memory for us. We sold out of our official distillery bottlings over a decade ago.
Now independent bottlers have picked up where Macallan left off, with affordable, albeit younger whiskies, that promise an alternative introduction to the house style.
This Gordon & Macphail release was distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2015. Aged in various sherry casks, both 1st fill and refill, the whisky is young, but the entry level pricing is attractive. Jim Murray was not a fan of this particular vintage, however tasters on the blogosphere have described it as "Lovely young Macallan". Notes from G&M... Delicate Sherry influences with apricot, mango, and lemon notes complemented by subtle beeswax polish aromas. Peppery with orange zest, kiwi, and subtle charred oak flavours complemented by a creamy milk chocolate edge. Aftertaste is peppery initially with orange marmalade, green apple, and milk chocolate flavours. 43% Alc./Vol.
