Domaine du Nozay at Sainte Gemme is on the northern edge of the Sancerre Appellation. The Chateau foundations date back to the 13th century with the Chateau itself being built in the 17th century. The vineyard was established from scratch by Philippe de Benoist, whose brother-in-law is Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of the famous Burgundy house, Domaine de la Romanee Conti.
A delightful Sancerre, showing plenty of varietal character but in a restrained way.
Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. Confectionary top note, followed by a grassy, herbaceous nose with vegetative end notes. Creamy palate, showing grassy herbaceous flavours and generous mouthfeel. Clean finish. Grassy, herbaceous, confectionary aftertaste.
Cellar 2-3 years (2009-2010)
