Malbec seems to have been declining in popularity for many years, both in Australia and Europe where it's rarely encountered as a varietal wine. Successful Argentine Malbec growers claim that in order to develop full maturity and distinction, Malbec needs 'hang time,' even after sugar levels indicate ripeness. Otherwise, immature Malbec can be very 'green' tasting, without its characteristic notes of mixed berries.

Bleasdale have managed to get it right.

Medium body. Crimson mauve colour with mauve hue. Top note of spice and plum followed by a hint of vanilla, confectionary and plum – delivering an appealing sniff. The palate has a soft tannin backbone which makes the wine quite appealing for short term drinking. Flavours of plum and spice over a touch of new leather. Soft tannins. Aftertaste of spice, plum and stewed fruit.
Cellar 2-3 years (2011-2012)
