2005 Yalumba The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon

The Menzies is made using small lot winemaking techniques, thereby maintaining the integrity of each harvest throughout vinification and maturation. The 2005 vintage was warm and dry and slightly early. Harvest was carried out under ideal, mild conditions. Matured for 22 months in 46% new French hogsheads and barriques, 12% 1 year old French oak, 22% 2 year old French oak and 20% in 2 year old American oak.

This beautifully ripened wine displays an outstanding black purple colour with a black purple hue – totally opaque. Superb nose of violets and liquorice allsorts, followed by a blackcurrant end note. Explosive mouthfilling palate. Flavours of vanilla, cedar, blackcurrant and spice are perfectly supported by liquorice. Outstanding length and depth. Very long aftertaste of vanilla, liquorice allsorts and blackcurrant.
